Family Contribution

Son of John Jehu (Jehuennes) and Elisabeth (Derryberry) Baker. Brother of Endymian, Terry, Malinda (Adams), Williamson, Parmelia (Tuckness), Henry and Polly. Emigrant of 1853 from Missouri.

Emigrated with brothers, sisters, and extended families. PVC established on a corner of his Donation Land Claim. Moses donated and officially deeded the land much later. The southern boundary of the cemetery marks the southern boundary of the DLC.

Baker Road marks the eastern boundary of his DLC.

His brother, Endymian, organized and led the Baker Clan west.
Endymian was friendly with John Zumwalt from their Missouri days together.  After making his emigration a couple of years earlier, Zumwalt probably enticed the Bakers to go to Oregon and to join him in the new territory.  The Bakers took DLC's immediately north of Zumwalt's.  Moses was said to be a bachelor.  As such, his DLC passed out of family hands earlier than most of the other family holdings.  His niece, Mary Baker, aged 4, appears to be the first "resident" of the cemetery.  That family death probably played an important role in his donating the land for the cemetery.  The oldest one was his nephew, Thomas Tuckness, though Thomas is probably not buried at PVC -- given his death date and place along with the fact that his parents did not make the trek from Missouri until 1853 with the entire Baker Clan.
