Family Contribution: The 1860 census lists George as a 4 yr old boy living with his family in Wood County, OH.  In 1880 George lived in Douglas County, OR, where he was a "boarder" and employed as a "shepherd."

1900 census lists George W Elsfelder, 43, born Feb 1857 in Ohio, living with his wife of 5 years, Liona M Elsfelder, 27, born Jun 1872 in Illinois, and their son Walter L.  The family lived in Portland, where George was employed as a saw-mill helper.  By 1910 the family had moved to Oak Point, in Columbia County.  George was still employed as a saw-mill laborer.

In 1920 the family – Walter, Liona, and their 3 sons– lived across the Columbia River in Clark County, WA.  George was employed as a laborer in a shipyard.  By 1930 the family was reduced to George and his wife.  George had taken up farming as an occupation.  Their three sons had moved on.
