From 1989 Sherwood Cultural Resource Inventory, Prominent Citizens: Williamson Baker, was one of the oldest pioneers of this area. He was born in Tennessee and moved with his parents to Missouri. He left Missouri with his parents and other emigrants in the spring of 1853. Baker crossed the plains by ox team and arrived in Oregon and settled on a donation land claim later passed on to his son, Ernie. He was a blacksmith by trade.
