Funeral services were held Friday in Attrell's Sherwood Chapel for Susan Elaine Baxter, 21, who died December 21 at the University of Oregon Medical School hospital where she had received a kidney transplant.  Miss Baxter was the medical school's 21st kidney transplant patient and died of pneumonia during recovery.

Services were conducted by the Rev. Otis Harden, pastor of Sherwood and Tualatin United Methodist Churches, with committal at Pleasant Hill Cemetery near Sherwood.  She was born on Dec. 7, 1947, in Portland, the daughter of Robert R. Baxter and the former Karleen Calkins.  The family lived in Lake Grove for four years and at Aloha the ensuing five years before moving to their home in Sherwood.

At the age of four Susan enrolled at the Oregon State School for the Deaf in Salem, where she continued her studies and was a senior this year.  She was a member of the school's track and volleyball teams and had been employed at Jary's Florist Shop, Salem.  About six months ago Susan was stricken by a disease that affected both kidneys.  Two times each week for five weeks she received treatment on the dialysis machine and underwent surgery for a kidney transplant on Nov. 26 at the University of Oregon Medical School hospital.

She is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert R. Baxter of Sherwood; a brother, Richard B. Baxter, stationed in Bremerton, Wash., with the U.S. Navy;and an aunt, Mrs. L.V. Ford of St. Helens.
